Karl Brown
Associate Director – Rockefeller Foundation
Karl Brown joined the Rockefeller Foundation in 2006. As Associate Director of Applied Technology, Brown is focused on the application of information technology to the programmatic work of the foundation. He is working on exploring and nurturing imaginative uses of technology by Rockefeller grantees, and improving collaboration and knowledge management within the Foundation.
Prior to joining the Rockefeller Foundation, Brown worked as the Chief Technical Officer of GNVC, an NGO that fostered entrepreneurship in Ghana. Previously, Brown was a technical team lead with Trilogy, where he developed and deployed enterprise systems and consumer-facing websites for Fortune 500 companies such as Ford and Nissan.
Brown received a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Stanford University and a Master of International Affairs from Columbia’s School of International and Public Affairs.
Anthony Llompart
Director of International Philanthropy and Healthcare – The Verizon Foundation
Anthony Llompart is the Director of International and Healthcare Philanthropy at The Verizon Foundation. He is responsible for the creation of technology centric healthcare philanthropy programs, and international philanthropy, including the management of the international employee volunteerism program.
Llompart’s successful 18 year career at Verizon includes a wealth of strategic, business development, domestic and international experiences. He has directed sales, customer service, marketing, and channel management functions in both domestic and international markets. In his previous role, Director Customer Care & Services, Llompart led customer experience transformation projects, including playing a critical role in creating a global standardization model for order management.
Earlier in his career Llompart was Executive Director, Channel Management with Verizon International. He has also held additional roles as Director, Marketing Services, International; and Vice President of Sales at Iusacell, a former Verizon affiliate in Mexico.
He began his career with GTE Wireless in 1994. Llompart holds an Bachelor of Arts in Business Management and an MBA from the University of Texas at Dallas.
Mike North, Ph.D.
CEO – Reallocate.org
Dr. North holds bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees in engineering with focuses on mechanical design, rapid prototyping, and nanotechnology. He has published in a half dozen major scientific journals, including the journal Nature; and continues to speak internationally on design and innovation.
Mike masterminded builds on the Discovery Channel show Prototype This!, where he led teams of crack inventors, scientists, builders, and engineers to create never before seen spectacles of engineering. Inventions ranged from an omni-directionally driving stilt lifting traffic busting truck to a 30-foot tall waterslide simulator to cutting-edge lifesaving firefighting equipment.
Currently Mike is bringing innovation to the toy industry as CTO at Nukotoys, Inc.; has a design and rapid prototyping firm, North Design Labs, LLC; and is founder/CEO of reallocate.org, a non-profit that engineers for humanity. He is also a technical advisor for various non-profits, foundations, and companies.
Peters Suh
CEO – Wholesale Applications Community
Peters Suh is the CEO of the Wholesale Applications Community (WAC), an alliance of leading communication operators and suppliers committed to building an open platform for device runtimes and network APIs.
Previously, Peters was the CEO of JIL (Joint Innovation Lab), a joint venture with Vodafone, China Mobile, Verizon Wireless, and Softbank Mobile. Before joining JIL, Peters was President of Vodafone Global Enterprise Incorporated and Vodafone Ventures Limited. He was a managing director for Fremont Communications, a private equity fund focusing on telecommunication investments. Peters was previously Vice President, Chief Technical Officer for Vodafone’s Global Internet Services group and also held a number of positions with AirTouch Cellular. Peters is a director of Vodafone Americas Foundation, Aspire Technologies, and the Diablo Regional Arts Association. Peters holds a B.A. and M.B.A., both from the University of California, Los Angeles.
Erica Weirich, MD
Executive Director – Global Health Research Foundation, Stanford University
Dr. Erica Weirich is the founder and director of Global Health Research Foundation (GHRF), a practicing physician in Los Altos, CA, and Adjunct Professor of Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine. In the mobile health arena, GHRF has integrated mobile applications into health and environment data repository systems to ensure rapid access to “outcomes” for programs in Uganda, Bhutan, Tanzania and even in Fresno, California. GHRF assists programs in utilizing appropriate technology to ensure problem identification, disease reduction, resource targeting and efficiency, generating platforms for true “tests of change” (reduction in morbidity/mortality, etc). Focused on health and eco-health improvement in resource-poor areas, GHRF is orienting and integrating technology to ensure that functioning solutions are interoperable, sustainable, scalable, and transferable.
Dr. Weirich earned a Masters in International Development Policy along with her Medical Degree at Stanford University. In addition to teaching medicine, Dr. Weirich teaches Stanford Engineering students through the “Engineering for Good” program developed and directed by Dr. My T. Le, who also serves as Engineering Director for Global Health Research Foundation.
