MoboSens, the mobile water sensor, checking in from Champaign, Illinois, the home of University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
MoboSens’s goal when entering the Vodafone Americas Foundation Wireless Innovation Project was to do what they can to help bring this technology to more deserving and curious citizen scientists around the world… and as a result of winning the WIP in 2013, MoboSens is on its way to accomplish this goal.
After the competition, they continued developing and expanding their product’s capability, improving their mobile phone liquid sensor. The efforts have paid off to create a far more enhanced product. As the product shapes into a maturity, they have been approached with many inquiries from various organizations from across the world about the market availability of this product; the main markets that they are currently targeting are the environmental monitoring and associated precision agriculture markets.
Despite their current challenges of integrating multiplexed sensors into one platform while keeping cost down, they are fully focused on expanding their technology to mobile health applications inspired by the revolutionary wearable health electronics industry. They are also leveraging their accomplishments and expanding the uses for their product by developing multiplexed MoboSens products for detecting four molecular biomarkers simultaneously in one drop of blood, this mean more ways to help make the world a better place.
In the meantime they continue to collect more accolades; they won the distinguished X prize foundation Nokia sensing XChallenge, and already started to build hundreds of sensors for the MoboSens collaborators across the world.
We are thrilled to accompany them on their way to their success and continue to fully support our Wireless Innovation Project competition winners. In addition to the award to support their R&D work, we guide them through many other efforts towards success, such as publicizing their projects. We’re happy to announce that we were able to assist in their process to secure an exhibition of MoboSens product at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC. We are pleased to see their growth and excitement as they attract numerous visitors from all over the world who will see their invention and know their names.
Stay tuned for the future updates as MoboSense continues “Testing the Waters”! MoboSens website
